Nightmares and bad dreams preceding suicidal behaviors

Introduction Sleep and circadian markers are of increasingly growing interest to help better predicting suicide. Indeed, specific sleep disorders rhythm have been associated suicidal behaviors, the most replicated findings insomnia nightmares. Nevertheless, these interesting preliminary studies did not examine chronology trajectories dream contents’ alterations before a crisis. Objectives In this context, we decided perform naturalistic study understand characteristic population during crisis, evaluate their past contents. We aimed distinguish in phenomenology three different experiences: bad dreams, nightmares (i.e. awakening dreams), scenarii dreams. hypothesized that experiences may chronologies emergence, individuals with alterations, compared without present clinical characteristics. Methods This included hospitalized between January 2021 May psychiatric post emergency unit for crisis (thoughts attempts). Results The observed 80% (n=32/40) patients had altered dreams (AD) including 27 (67.5%) 21 (52.5%) -awakening dreams- 9 (22.5%) No differences were AD group versus no (ND) regarding sociodemographic progression content alterations: appear 111 days (4 months) then 87.3 (3 months), reported 45.2 (1.5 month). For ND met at least one subtype 40% nightmares, 17.5% 3 subtypes. group, ND, significantly more family history (p=0.046). Almost all (97.5%) depressive symptoms (MADRS≥7; 82.5% moderate severe symptoms, MADRS≥20), 60% (ISI>14), 92.5% quality (PSQI>5), 57.5% sleepiness (ESS>10).
